Saying goodbye to Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou

Poetess and activist Maya Angelou has left a unique legacy in the world of literature, and also in the world of politics. Her loss inspired me to find out more about her, and she really was an amazing woman!

I wrote this piece for HowzitMSN and NoW!

Abstract:

On Wednesday, the literary world was plunged into despair and mourning at the sudden silence of Maya Angelou’s inspiring voice.

Angelou, born Marguerite Ann Johnson, heralded as one of the greatest female creatives of our time and that of older generations, passed away quietly at her home in North Carolina, USA. The poet had apparently suffered from heart problems for some time.

Angelou led a full life as she campaigned for human rights, educational access, and equality. Her poems have scribed themselves on the hearts of many; she knew how to sing calypso; she consorted with the likes of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr; and she will be sorely missed.

During her life, she managed to achieve much, and many of her achievements were great. We take a look at a few of them…
