Mngeni parole denial: linked to poverty?

Wikimedia Commons/Zbirka slik Narodnega muzeja SlovenijeXolile Mngeni, the man who was convicted for killing Swedish tourist Anni Dewani on her honeymoon to South Africa, died in prison after being denied medical parole. The denial threw into sharp contrast the granting of parole to the likes of Schabir Shaik and Jackie Selebi. I consider whether poverty may have had anything to do with the denial.
